A Dozen Reasons Why You Need Vitamin D

You probably already know you need vitamin D for strong bones, but there are a dozen other reasons why you should be taking this supplement. Different medical societies have different guidelines regarding the optimal level of vitamin D one should have, and what constitutes a deficiency.

For many years, I have recommended a vitamin D level of at least 80 ng/ml. I’m sticking to that.

Weight Loss
For example, to lose any weight, it is essential to have a vitamin D level of at least 80 ng/ml. There have been many published articles on this topic, like this one. As a rule of thumb, it is recommended to take 1000 IU/day (0.025mg) for each 50-55 pounds (25 kg)) of body weight.   You can find our Vitamin D here. Our 5000 IU formula is perfect to build up your levels.  Healthy vitamin D levels help the body regulate insulin, so blood sugar levels are healthy and stable.

Cholesterol
The body uses a very complex process to produce cholesterol. This complex series of reactions involves more than 20 different steps. The last step relies on the enzyme DHCR7 to convert a substance called 7DHC into cholesterol. This substance, 7DHC, can also be turned into vitamin D by UV from sunlight. The body is an amazing thing, isn’t it?

Brain Health
In his book, The Indoctrinated Brain, Dr. Michael Nehl describes how constant exposure to fear-based messages leads to a strong neurotoxic effect in the brain. An entire cascade of pro-inflammatory cytokines can literally shut down our ability to think. Constant fear physically damages the brain. What can be done? Supplements can decrease brain inflammation, and Vitamin D is the most important one, followed by omega-3 fatty acids.  Vitamin D can also help with low mood and depression.

Skin
Chronic inflammatory skin conditions like eczema, rosacea and alopecia indicate impaired immunity and nutrient deficiencies of iron, zinc and yes – vitamin D.

Allergies and Colds
People with low vitamin D often have frequent colds, asthma and allergies.

Heart Health
Did you know vitamin D helps with heart muscle contractions? Having a healthy heart means having sufficient D levels.

Other Benefits
Vitamin D plays a vital role in calcium homeostasis, skeletal metabolism, and in the proper function of the immune, cardiovascular, and reproductive systems. It is also important to gut health and prevention of disorders like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Low vitamin D is also associated with several types of cancer including lung, breast, pancreatic and colon cancers.

How to get more D
Many people are deficient in vitamin D – about half the worldwide population and about 25% of the US population. This can occur particularly in winter, simply due to less exposure to the sun. Women are more likely to be deficient, as are older adults and people who are overweight. Taking certain drugs can decrease your absorption of Vitamin D.

A deficiency of vitamin D can lead to serious health issues, so be sure to get more daily D.

08-09-21 Deep Dive PREMIUM – with Jamie Walden

Meet Jamie Walden, of Omega Dynamics. Imbued with matchless passion for all things “adventurous” and “fun”, Jamie’s teen years were filled with significant tumult (injuries, arrests, and choices of near life-long consequence). However, amid the rebellion and ruckus, Jamie continually endeavored to one day earn the title, “U.S. Marine”. After being nominated to attend the National Youth Leadership Forum on Defense, Intelligence, and Diplomacy in Washington, D.C., where he subsequently secured a nomination to the US Naval Academy, Jamie made the determination to simply enlist in the Marine Corps Infantry and achieve his childhood dream.

After leaving the Marines Corps, Jamie obtained a double major B.S. in Law Enforcement and History. Pursuing a career in Federal Law Enforcement, Jamie was selected as an Intern for the United States Marshals Service, and subsequent recruitment to a “Three Letter” agency. It was then, when Jamie received “the call”, that the Lord began testing and affirming the genuineness of his faith.

After again returning to Iraq in 2014 to serve the Christians suffering under the savage campaign of ISIS, Jamie and his wife Virginia were compelled to surrender their paradigm and follow the Lord into full-time ministry.

“The Mission of Omega Dynamics is this: to teach, train and equip “Those with ears to hear” to stand anew in their rightful place as more than conquerors in a kingdom that cannot be shaken…this generation is literally, eternally dying for us to”
