BULLY STORIES

I was always a little uneasy about vaccines.  I started to find information questioning vaccine safety shortly after my daughter was born.  I asked the pediatrician and she quickly hushed my concerns with the fact that they were safe.  She did make a comment at my daughter’s 3rd appointment that they were out of the Dtap vaccine.  She said, “I don’t know why they changed it.  It used to be 2 and now they say 3.”  This helped me decide that it wasn’t necessary and I planned to do one last 10 month visit with her which was not a “shot” visit.  However, the Dtap was restocked then and she tried to give it to my daughter.  I said no and she instantly got angry with me and spoke in a demeaning voice, “And why are you refusing the shot?”  As I gave my answer that I had read books, attended a seminar, viewed movies and had anxiety about it leaving me and my husband uncomfortable with the idea, she typed my response onto her computer.  Her fingers bounced off the keys in anger (loud, quick strokes) and she repeated in a snappy tone, “…because she saw a movie and someone said it was bad.”  She had always been so nice and shared stories about her 5 children like we were buddies, until this day.  I had to sign a “refusal to vaccinate” form.  I thought, “Where was her form that she would sign promising my child would not be hurt by the vaccines she had already given her?”  I left her office in tears, feeling like I was a terrible mom and I must not love my child by the way I was treated.  That is, until I talked to my husband and my friends who encouraged me that I was treated wrongly and right to have concerns. Our family only uses family doctors or chiropractors now and we rarely go at all.  We are afraid to use a hospital facility because it is hard to stop them from doing something we don’t want.  We just live each day praying a blessing of good health over our children, because we know we are on our own.  It’s sad. My usual doctor was busy so I saw Dr. Phyllis E. Heinemann in Hot Springs, AR. My two year old was having constipation. I had not decided whether I wanted to vaccinate or not. I was postponing it until I had decided. I didn’t come there for that purpose. This doctor looked up her shot record, then said, “She isn’t fully vaccinated, why?” I said that I didn’t know what the benefits vs. the effects were yet and she said, “You need to get this baby vaccinated. EVERYBODY KNOWS that vaccination saves lives.” I said well my chiropractor says it isn’t good for them. “Well he is a quack. He is a nut case. You are CRAZY if you listen to him. He isn’t even a real doctor. PLEASE let me get this baby her vaccines. With all these illegals coming across the border who KNOWS what she could catch!”  So I gave in and let her vaccinate her. The poor baby has had pain in her legs ever since and that was almost two months ago. I felt very bullied. It made me want to never take my kids back to ANY doctor ever again. When we went to a new pediatrician at 4 months and he found out that my son had not received any shots. He got very upset and started yelling loud enough to be heard in the waiting room. He told me how irresponsible and reckless it is, how he refuses to see any children that are not up to date on their shots and how my son needed to had to have his shots TODAY. He then went on to use all sorts of guilt trip tactics, we never went back. Jessica Fox

Alpine Pediatrics in Utah tried to force us to get vaccines. They tried to pressure us by using high pressure tactics saying, “Its against our policy to serve children without vaccinations.” They tried to make us feel dumb for asking about the side effects. Their response, “well yeah some children may get side effects but your child might die if they don’t have this.” They terminated us from their practice witch I feel is discrimination against my religious beliefs. When my first child was born, she received two hepatitis B shots while in the hospital. The error happened because the nurse on duty failed to chart it, left her shift, and the 2nd nurse gave him another one! When I voiced my concerns to my pediatrician, his comment was, “Just make sure that the hospital doesn’t charge you for two shots since it was their error.” Oh gee…thanks, Doc! What about side effects to watch for?  My 2nd son caught a respiratory virus when he was about 6 weeks old. I phoned my pediatrician late at night, to ask when I should be concerned enough to bring my son in, he responded, “Wait until he turns blue and then bring him in.” What?!?! I lived 30 minutes away from the hospital! I was seething, scooped up my little guy and took him in, and he was immediately put on to a respirator due to him being so bad. Wait until he turns blue, indeed! My 5th child can’t stand liquid, syrupy medicines. One time when she had pneumonia, she was forced to take this syrupy stuff instead of pill form because the doctors did not believe that 1) she could swallow pills and 2) that she “should like the stuff since all other kids do.” <sigh> Sue S from Redmond, Oregon

Our pediatrician said that if I didn’t sign a form saying that I was refusing vaccines that day she could lose her medical license! On another visit, one of the other pediatricians in and came back with a poster of kids sick with every kind of disease they could think of. I fired them! They only give referrals if you come in for “well child” visits which are really forced vaccination visits. Sad. Linda N

My son is vaccine damaged.  It not only caused autism but a non-specified immune disorder and a metabolic disorder NOS along with a host of other medical and neurological problems.  He received a lifetime medical exemption to vaccination from his immunologist. Yet, during the H!N! (fake) scare, my son’s pediatrician tried to terrify us about H1N! and tried to bully us into getting that and the regular flu shot.  His previous vaccine damage caused a lot of lung problems.  We were there because he was sick with yet another lung infection.  I have no doubt he would have given him the shots, even
though he was clearly sick, if i had let him.  I could not believe he was still trying to push the shots even though he KNEW our son had a medical exemption!  I confess, I finally had to say, “Okay, IF you put a bullet in my head first!” I was angry, but hat shut him up.  He had us go across the street to the ER and have him tested for H1N1, which was of course negative after waiting over TWO hours to get tested.

Now we have to drive three times as far, but we have found a doc who so far is respecting the immunologist’s recommendations. Excerpt when we go to the immunologist, we are scared every time we have to go to a doctor or to the ER because you never know if they are going to “go Gestapo.” Sincerely,  Haven DeLay

I found this site it because I did a search on pediatricians in my area who are not Vaccination Nazis (no luck so far, just this site!). I went to a pediatrician, Dr. Liu, in Albuquerque, for a well-visit, and this woman thrashed me emotionally. She called me a bad parent for not having my daughter’s vaccines up to date (she doesn’t even go to school). “I can tell she is intellectually bright, but you have done emotional damage to her because you have let her have a bottle for three years.” I got so angry and started to cry. She was barely three yet, and yes, I had let her have an organic formula once a day at night. She did not act babyish. In fact, people always tell me how mature my daughter is. This woman told me I had done permanent damage. “Even though I can tell she is mentally above average, if you let her have a bottle to this age, you have done some serious infantilizing damage.” UM< WHAT!? That night I stopped giving my daughter bottles for good. I explained it to her and she understood, and there was never a moment of an issue for her. She let it go very easily. This doctor spent quite a few minutes letting me know that because I had not vaccinated my daughter and had let her drink formula up to the age of 3, that I had failed in my job as a mother and that she, the doctor, was “appalled.” I was so furious, and I felt so alone. So I called my mother-in-law, who is an anthroposophical nurse (Rudolf Steiner, Waldorf Schools, doctors associated with his natural medicine) and she reassured me. What is wrong with these doctors on a power trip!? This doctor doesn’t even have children of her OWN!  C. Ziegler, Albuquerque

My 10 month old had a fever of 104.7 today and we took him to the ER. After waiting and getting negative test results for influenza etc. except for a positive middle ear infection the Dr. came into the room for the first time and immediately questioned me about immunizations. She asked me why Alexander is not vaccinated and I told her I don’t believe in them. She asked me about my sources and accused me of using “Jenny McCarthy” as my source which I don’t even know who that is. Then she went on to say that this is not a valid source and that pertussis vaccine keeps babies from getting whooping cough. I pointed out to her that the pertussis vaccine has also killed babies and she stated that its not true. She then went on to tell me about her 15 years of education that backs up her opinion for the need of vaccines. I told her I understand and that I do not want to feel pressured to vaccinate and that ultimately its my decision. She also used a scare tactic and said that some hospitals wont even treat babies that are not immunized. She finally gave up but I cried the whole way home. I am a new mom and it is challenging enough to make this decision to not vaccinate. Also, as a first time mom a fever alone is scary enough. I felt pressured and disrespected and should not have considering that we where only there to get the fever treated. Sincerely, Sharra L. Wright BH-HUS
